Howdy Peeps.....Lynne Forsythe here....

I used the Cotswald Manor Collection from Splash of Color
as the base of my banner!!

It is a bit hard to see but my Valentine's Banner
says MY HEART!

I began by applying
Viva Colour ~ Inka Gold ~ Lava Red and Old Silver
to a sheet of the Sentimental paper from
the Cotswald Manor Collection!

I then began die~cutting using
the BEAUFTIFUL Die~Namites Dies....
Regal Heart
Lovely Doily
Rose Heart
Planted Heart

From a sheet of Devotion from the Cotswald Manor Collections
I die~cut many
Love Arrangement

 ....then I let the creating begin!!!

I painted some chipboard letters with 
Luminarte Silks Acrylic Glaze ~ Black Ice
then I dabbed on some 
Viva Colour ~ Inka Gold ~ Lava Red and Old Silver.

I accented the "green" Love Arrangement Die~Namites die~cut
with Viva Colour ~ Magic Transparent Pearl Pens ~ Clear
....SEE the beautiful Regal Heart!

The handmade spiral flowers created from various pieces of paper
from the Cotswald Manor Collection,
and accented with Viva Colour Inka Gold.
The die~cut heart is Die~Namites Rose Heart.

For my "T", I cut apart the
 Die~Namites Planted Heart die~cut
and used the center heart.

I had tons of FUN creating "MY HEART" banner...

Splash of Art Journaling

We have done a lot of fun projects and out of the box creating, but creating in my art journal remains one of my favorites.

Here is a finished page, where I drew a face in pencil. I then covered the page in a clear gesso which sealed the paper and made it ready to paint. First, Itried oil pastels for the hair, but I didn't like how irregular the lines were.

 The Viva Colour Paper Pen in black saved the day!

 I used the Viva Colour Paper Pen in black which made a great texture. The Luminarte Silks in Black Ice filled in the space.

 

 The yellow circles are in yellow oil pastels, but the background is from Radiant Rains-Bashful Blue, Honey Dew, and Ice. I brushed them on the gessoed surface, which allowed the Radiant Rain to disperse and blend into a watery effect.                

An art journal is all about experimenting. I'm really happy with the result! Hope you can craft today!-heather

-"Gesso" used is new on the market and is not bulky like traditional gesso its called "Pam Carriker's Mixed Media Adhesive"

 

 

My Little Tag Notebook

Lisa here with another Splash Of color project to share with you. I love tags and I love little notebooks. I decided to combine the 2 and create a little tag notebook The cover and back is thick chipboard covered with pattern paper and then adorned with Splash of Color product. The inside are die cut tags made from plain white card stock. I added 9 pages.

Here is a closeup of the flower cluster and my title. The flowers all starrted out white and I painted them with Splash Of Color Silks Acrylic Glaze in African Jade. The Mulberry paper leaves were a beige color and I painted them with Silks Acrylic Glaze in Pretty Peridot. The brown leaves were die cut and painted with Silks Acrylic Glaze in Nutmeg. The flourishes were die cut using Kraft paper and painted with the Nutmeg as well.

Here is a side view of the Tag Notebook. I thought 9 pages gave it a little bulk and plenty of space to write in. Once the cover was done, I used a toothbrush, Silks and a little water to spatter the cover and the back with the Silks glaze in Pretty Peridot. For the edges of cover and back of the tags, I rubbed some Splash Of Color Viva Colour Inka Gold in Steel Blue. Then using Luminarte Twinkling H20's in Bashful Blue, went over it lighty to get a 2 toned faded out effect.

Here you can see how I fanned out the papers. The ribbon is actually Seam Binding that I spread in a little puddle of the same Silks colors I used on the leaves and flowers. I misted the Seam Binding with water before I added the paint. The paint wicked into the Seam Binding with ease. I added a couple of strands of Bakers Twine as well.

Thank  you for coming and taking a peek at my little tag notebook. This was a quick and fun  project to do.

....and the shoes HAVE IT!

I love creating for CHA!!! 
I always try to come up with one
REALLLLY OUTTA THE BOX creation!
This year was no exception!

I don't know why, but I love decorating shoes.
and I must say, I'm not a huge shoe person.
I had it in my head I wanted to do 
a pair of those big 'ole pumps.
You know....the kind where you could
twist you ankle just walking across the floor....
(maybe you are a bit more talented in the walking
department than I!!)

While on a our way to a Consumer Show....
Cheryl and I went to this second hand store....
and there they were...the shoes I had been looking for
Black Leather with studded heals!!

I really wish I had taken of before picture....
but here is the after picture!!

With a stipple brush, I applied
Viva Colour Ferro ~ Amber Gold to base of the shoes.

I used various supplies on my Platform shoes...
one is the Shabby Beige ~ Darjeeling Daisy by Petaloo
colored with various Luminarte ~ Primary Elements mixed with
Bind and Resist, and Luminarte ~ Silk Acrylic Glazes.
Then accented with Viva Colour ~ Precious Metal Effect Paint
and a BEAUTIFUL antique button.

Being a HUGE LOVER of ALL THINGS Vintage Lace,
I found just the perfect piece of lace to add to my shoes.

A little tip.....gently spritz the lace with a bit of water
to help the Luminarte ~ Silks Acrylic Glaze
wick into the treads.

I scrounged around and found a large chippie,
which I cut apart, painted with 
Luminarte ~ Silk Acrylic Glaze
and a bit of Golden ~ Glass Beads.
I finished off my creation with
various Mini Pearl Daises by Petaloo
accented with various colors.

Final Splash of ATC Formula

 While it has been cold out, I've kept myself busy with ATC's. They are little pieces of art the size of a playing card. I actually glue the base to a playing card because they are nice and sturdy. 

 

 

 I have been assembling like a factory, following a basic formula:

    -Paper (I used a lot of Resist Paper)

    -Paint (Choose your favorite!)

    -Embellishment (Lots of these to choose from too!)

    -Person (your photo or collage sheets-NEW!)

    -Quote

    -Accents by hand (Pens work well!)

I wanted to share with you 
one of the tags, from a series of four
that I created 
for the creative event held
at the Art Lounge
this past week!

The tags were created
using base supplies of 6 different 
Luminarte ~ Silks Acrylic Glaze...
Honey Amber
Bolivian Blue
Wine & Roses
Chestnut Brown
Fern
Cinnamon Brown

I learned from one of my amazing students.....
Dee, to never waste the "left over color"
that is left on your craft mat!

While in the process of creating another project for CHA,
I had LOTS of "left over color"
so I "sopped" it up with 
Manilla Shipping Tags
creating the BEAUTIFUL base....

To finish creating the background....
I then pulled out a Crafter's Workshop stencil
and applied VIVA Colour ~ Graphite ~ Ferro through it.

I just LOVE 
Silks Acrylic Glaze ~ Wind and Roses!!!
and that Petaloo flower took the color
like a DREAM!!!

......and my ALL TIME FAVORITE technique
applying Precious Metal Effect Paint
to the edge of the flowers....
giving it a spritz of water...
and the results 
are JUST BEAUTIFUL!!!

I am so excited to be sharing, with you, my creation for the Splash of Color/May Arts blog hop!!
I've seen so very many BEAUTIFUL Christmas Tree Cavases.
....and decided I would try my hand at one!

I knew I would be using papers from the "Decked Out" Collection....
I knew I would be using various May Arts Ribbons....
I then chose some Luminarte Silk Acrylic Glazes.....
....also, went digging for a few Artistic Mouldings.

I began by collaging Nifty Tree and Nifty Snowman papers
from the "Decked Out" Collection onto my canvas.
Tip.....I like to spritz the paper with water....it manipulates better!

While it was drying, I found a sheet of vintage music and cut it into the shape of a tree.
I then applied a layer of Multi Medium and placed it face down on a piece of Canvas.
Set it aside to dry.
Tip.....I used a dry iron to help faciltate the process.

Using a Fan brush, I randomly applied
Luminarte ~ Silk Acrylic Glaze ~ Africian Jade
over the paper.
Tip.....a light mist of water over applied Silk helps blend.

When dry, I randomly applied Viva Colour ~ Crackle Base Coat for Pourous Surfaces
when that layer was dry, I applied
Viva Colour ~ Crackle Paint ~ Transparent to the visible previous layer.
Tip....the thicker you apply the Crackle Paint, the thicker the cracks.

Now....back to the Canvas Tree shape.
I spritzed the vintage music paper with water 
and rubbed it off to expose the image transfer.

I cut out the Canvas Tree shape,
slightly larger than the image transfer. 

I then painted the tree with 
Luminarte ~ Silk Acrylic Glaze ~ Forest Green .

For fun, I splattered on a bit of
Luminarte ~ Silk Acrylic Glaze ~ Solar Gold.

colored with Luminarte ~ Silk Acrylic Glaze ~ African Jade.

The Faux Canvas
colored with Luminarte ~ Silk Acrylic Glaze ~ Carmen 
and Chestnut Brown
then hand stitched.

I have to tell on myself....
I thought I was finished with the canvas....
but I wasn't TOTALLY happy with it....
YOU KNOW WHY???

AHHHHHHH.....there were no flowers!!!
I knew which ones would be perfect for My Tree...

Recently, I used a kit to help me make some necklaces for the Birthday girl and her friends. Using the same kit (by Maya Road), I made these very different and also very cute snowflake necklaces that I can give as gifts. 

The snowflakes are from the Decked Out line of papers.

I used a layer of Viva Colour's Magic Transparent Blue Pearl Pen to add shimmer under the square dome that gets glued on top. 

 The May Arts lace added the perfect icy effect.  

 

 The other cool feature is the altered color of the metals. I used Viva Colour's Inka Gold in Steel Blue to create this cool patina on all the keys.

 

 I used Viva Colour's Precious Metal paint in Lagoon to paint the chains.  

 Super simple and fantastic results! Enjoy adding color! -heather

Art Journal Page with Lisa

I have finally ventured into the world of Art Journaling. I LOVE quotes, I collect them from everywhere. So I decided instead of just putting them on one of my 12x12 layouts, I would place my collection on art journaling pages. I found an old book the perfect size, pulled out my silks and went to work!! It started with a YouTube video that caught my creative eye. The mixed media artist's name is Rachel, and she did a journaling page that I simply ahd to recreate. I had to give it a go and try my hand at Art Journaling. So this is the tutorial that inspired me. It is a piece called Life On Hold. RachO113

I prepared my pages by gluing a few of them together for stability, then priming them with gesso.Once it was dry, I sprayed the pages with a very fine water mist, then painted on a layer of Luminarte Silks Glaze in African Jade. The I stroked on some random streaks of Silks Pretty Peridot and blended it all in. Once it was dry, I used a mask of diamond shapes and blotted on some Silks Glaze in Bolovian Blue. I tore some book pages by hand in random shapes and cut out some hearts in different sizes and adhered it to the background pages using a type of decopauge medium. I used a charcoal pencil to outline the hearts and rubbed it in using my fingers untill it blended in softly.

I used another mask of tiny circles and used the Silks in Nutmeg to go ove the pages in random spots. I placed some Washi Tape in different places and Used a faux stitch stamp on te pages as well. I used a toothbrush, dipped it into Silks Love Struck and splattered it over the pages. I printed the words on book pages, cut them out and adhered them to the pages. I painted around the works with Silks Emporors gold. I outlined the hearts as well. Once the page was dry, I brushed the Mod Podge over both pages to seal everything in.

Splash of Jewelry via Heather

I'm excited to share another piece of jewelry that I made using the Paper Goods Collage Sheet: Vintage Girls. 

 I simply cut the girl out of the collage sheet, and glued her into place. I glued on crystals, opal flakes and the word "love." Then I covered it with Ice Resin. This takes a cute collage into a piece of jewelry.

 Attached to the bottom is a vintage reproduction crystal button. For the chain, I mixed two types of metal chain and used a piece of lace. In the back there is a toggle for the closure. 

 I absolutely love these collage sheets! There are many new sheets too, so check them out. It is such a bargin for a buck! Have fun and happy crafting! -Heather Kindt
