In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

I created this paper bra in frilly pinks and sparkling colors.  I would like to dedicate this to my Aunt Rita, Aunt Fran and my dear friend, Diane J who are all breast cancer survivors.  Because they did monthly self exams, had well women check ups regularly and had a mammogram when the doctors recommended, their breast cancer was caught early. To these women and all others, this bra is for you!

The Monarch Iris Foil paper by Marah Johnson was perfect for the bra as I wanted it to be lovely and pretty.  I used Luminarte's Twinkling H20s and Primary Elements to paint the design.  I used a heart shaped mini album as the template for the top of the bra . I cut two copies of each section from the Monarch Iris Foil paper; I painted one section and used the second as the liner for the bra and the side panels.

Next, I cut off the straps and the hooks and eyes from a worn out bra of my own, shortened the length of the straps and dyed them using Luminarte's Twinkling H20 in Rose Gold.  After the straps dried, I glued the straps and the pleated ribbon trim between the two pieces in the front and repeated this process for the side panels with the straps, the hooks and the eyes pieces. I added the trim to the front and the sides.

 

Off to make my mammogram appointment!

Hauntingly fun centerpiece

 Jules here. We are having a few of our friends over for dinner in a couple weekends before we all head out to a "haunted forrest" near our house.  I wanted to create something fun and special for the centerpiece for the dinner table and, with the help of the wonderful Creative Imaginations products, I am so happy how my centerpiece turned out. 

I had purchased a set of three of these chipboard house, each smaller than the one before.  This is the largest of the three measuring 11" x 9" x 6" which made it easy to cover with sheets of the Halloweened themed papers from Creative Imaginations. 

The roof comes off the house so I placed several of the battery operated twinkle lights inside to give it that extra grlow!

I fancy cut elements and layered to cover the back of the house.

DIRECTIONS

1.  Paint the base of the house, the chimney and the eaves of the roof black

2.  Paint the sheet of vellum with the Twinkling H20s in Moonbeam...don't worry it it buckles.  It lookds more like and old window if it does.

3.  Cut out the dividers in the windows on the front and sides of the house.

4.  Use the house itself as a template to cut the papers to fit the front, sides and backs of the house.  Once the vellum had dried, cut pieces to cover the windows and glue onto the bare house. Cut out small pieces of paper and crease to create the shutters at glue.   Place the papers on the front, sides and back for the house siding. Use stickers and pieces of the stripe paper to cover the corners.

5. Cut two screen doors out of black cardstock.  Color a piece of the nylon screening from the screen repair kit black and place between the two doors and glue them together.  Attach to the front of the house.

6.  Cut the die cut pumpkin paper just below the pumkins for the fence.  Use clear drying glue to attach the pumpkins.  You will need two sheets of the paper.

7.  To make the "tin" roof, cut strips of the matte silver paper and run it through a crimper to corrugate.  Use tissue paper to create templates for the front of the roof then cut out the sections from the silver paper and glue in place.

8.  Sprinkle baby powder on the backs of your selected stickers so are not sticky and with a dab of clear drying adhesive,  glue several to the inside of the vellum windows.

9.  To create the flying ghost coming out of the chimney, either coil a piece of wire tightly or use the spring from a throw away ink pen.  Flatten one end and glue it between the ghosts sticker and a piece of white cardstock.  Trim the card stock to fit the sticker.  Place the other end into a puddle of clear drying glue.

For night time display, place several of the battery operated twinkle lights inside the house.  The flicker ones add even more atmosphere.

ATC Week Continues ...

Hello and TGIF! Lynn here with a few ATC's to wrap up ATC week! My first ATC came together pretty quickly. The Loolah ATC Pack is loaded with hearts, flowers, and adorable Ladybugs to help decorate your ATC. I painted the Ladybugs with Luminarte Twinkling H2O's in Heavenly, splattered some white paint on the background to give it a mixed media flair!

 I then dotted the pink scallop strip with Viva Colour Pearl Pen by Creative Imaginations in Cream - I love the dimension the Pearl Pens add to a project!

For my second ATC I grabbed some some twigs from the woods in my backyard ... actually the twigs themselves sparked the idea for this ATC. I tore a piece of paper from the Life as Art ATC Pack and placed it on a real wood ATC. I scraped some white paint over the card. I used a background stamp over the painted ATC. I adhered a flower die-cut from Preposterous die-cut shapes and glued the twigs over flowers. Next I grabbed a birdie from the Assemblage die-cut shapes and tucked him in the twigs. I painted the flowers with Twinkling H2O's in Pink Azalea and then added a little white acrylic paint to tone it down.

 

My birdie needed a crown so I used a Paintable Resin crown and painted it with Solar Gold Twinks. I also splattered some Twinks from my brush onto the card. The clock is a transparency shape from the Preposterous collection.

Let your Imagination Fly ...

I'm in a mixed media frame of mind! (sung to the tune of Billy Joel's "New York state of Mind")! Luckily you can't hear me sing - cuz I can't!! So I'll stick with creating. I wanted to create a canvas combining Luminarte, CI Existencisl and some papers from the new CI signature ~ Assemblage collection. This collection is gorgeous and vintage and has my name written all over it - well, not literally - but I fits me to a tee!  Here's my completed canvas ...

I started with an 8x8 canvas which I collaged with papers from the 6x6 paper pad that coordinates with the Assemblage collection. I then added a small amount of white paint over the canvas which I applied with a brayer. I added some stamped images to create more detail. Next came the fun part! I grabbed my Nature Existencil and placed it over the entire canvas. I scraped modeling paste over the stencil with a palette knife. I peeled off the stencil and I think I actually squealed with delight!

I then dug through my Twinkling H20's stash and found a beautiful pink from the Think Pink Collection that match the papers perfectly! I painted over the stenciled roses with the Luminarte and it came to life - the Luminarte "puddled" around the edges of the roses which made them look shaded - I didn't plan on that it just happened! {insert another squeal here} ...

So, what next? The background is now pretty busy so anything small would look lost. How about a large-ish bird - I use birds quite often on my projects. I traced a bird from a fabric bird I had in my stash onto another paper from the 6x6 paper pad and inked the edges. I tore a piece of corrugated cardboard and added some gesso. I used some FABULOUS Petaloo Berry and Vine Sprays and made a branch for my bird to perch on. I nestled the bird inbetween the Petaloo sprays and popped him on the cardboard to add dimension. I placed my title on the bird and outlined around it with a doodling pen ...

For the final "layer" I spritzed the bird with Luminarte Shimmering Mist in Ice - my go to color (note to self ... need to order more!) I also added a light mist to the whole canvas to give it a beautiful shimmer!

Our first project reveal is by Design Team Member, Lynn Kopas!

The DT here at Creative Imaginations squealed when we heard about teaming up with Faber-Castell! Faber-Castell products are so versatile and the creative possibilities are endless. I decided to create art journal pages combining tons of products from both companies. The background for my pages was created combining a few Luminarte Radiant Rain Shimmering Mists and water ...

I then grabbed my Butterfly CI Existencil and placed it on the background - before I heat set the mists - and spritzed water over the stencil. This gave the background another subtle layer ...(this technique shows up more with darker colored mists) ...

I planned on creating an outdoor scene so I started with a dimensional tree on the left page. I used the tree stencil from the Nature CI Existencil Kit and mixed Primary Elements in Dragonfly with modeling paste and dabbed the mixture over the stencil ...

Then, it was time to bring on Faber-Castell's Gelatos - one of my FAV products!! Gelatos have so many uses and add color and depth to your projects. I cut out some leaves from CI Paint It Paper, wet the leaves and crumpled them up. Once dry I "painted" them with a gorgeous Lime green Gelato. To paint with Gelatos, rub the gelato on a craft sheet, add water and blend together - then paint on any surface ...

My scene needed a sun, so I mixed glass beads with Luminarte Radiant Rain Shimmering Mist and applied the mixture to the opposite page with bubble wrap (for texture). I cut small strips of Paint It papers for sun "rays" and added Luminarte Twinkling H20's for shimmery color. I added stamped images with permanent inks and gesso for more background detail. The grass was created with Faber-Castell Art Grip Aquarelles which are AMAZING watercolor pencils ...

Next, a house was needed for my outdoors scene! I hand cut a house and roof from CI Paint It Paper and then used the oh so fabulous Faber-Castell Art Grip Aquarelle water color pencils. These are so easy to use - I scribbled various colors on the house - you don't have to color in the whole area - just enough to add color, and then blend with water and a paint brush. This gives a lovely painterly, watercolor effect ...

The birdie was created the same way and then outlined with Faber-Castell Artist Pen in black ...

What's an outdoor scene without flowers ... so the gelaots came back out! I used the same technique as I did to create the leaves. I used the tip of my rub-on tool dipped in gesso to create the flower centers. The stems were drawn on with another of my FAV Faber-Castell products - Pitt Pens!!!

The Big Brush Pens are great for shading, outlining, adding color anywhere. I used them to outline the leaves and to add color to the stenciled tree. Another fun use of the Pitt Pens is to apply them directly to a stamp, lightly spritz with water and stamp as I did here ...

This technique adds a lovely watercolor effect. The amount of water you use makes a difference, so often the second generation stamp is clearer.

After outlining and doodling with the Pitt Artist Pen in black and flicking more Luminarte Radiant Rain Shimmering Mist on the background and going around the edges with a dark green Big Brush Pitt Pen I was finally satisfied! Here's the end result ...

A Couple of ATCs!!

Hey scrappers! Donna here, sharing a couple of ATC’s for the month of August!!  You know, those little gems that are such a pleasure to create with! 

This month, for my first ATC, I decided to mix it up a bit and use a few of the different styles of ATC’s and die cuts all on one card.   Lots of dimension going on here by using the clear, “Playful Heart” die cut in the background, a small piece of a corrugated ATC with a border punch backed with pieces of another ATC and then layering different elements around all.  In the end, I framed the piece with a die cut frame from the Devotion set and added some lace at the bottom.

I applied some Cedarwood Twinklng H20’s to the corrugated piece, and some Blue Zircon to the resin piece.

For my second ATC, I used a bit of the Preposterous collection, which is a new favorite of mine for sure. Again, we’ve got some dimension here. 

I used the negative of the corrugated border I created for the card above. Then, I simply added a canvas strip, some chipboard and some flowers.  In the end, I backed this one with a piece of paper to create a tiny frame.

Remember ... "Same Product - 3 Ways" ?!?

Well we're back with way number three! Last month Nicole and Alice shared projects using a new blog feature called "Same Products 3 Ways". Now it's my turn to share my project. I created a canvas - my new obsession - using the products below ... papers form the adorable Ragamuffins collection by IOD ...

Here's how I created my 6 x 12 studio canvas ...

I covered the canvas with papers from the Ragamuffins collection and lightly dry brushed the background with white paint. I stamped randomly on the background with a script stamp and black permanent ink. I mixed green paint with modeling paste and pressed the mixture into a butterfly stencil to "create" multiple textured flower backgrounds. I sprinkled glitter on the flowers while they were wet. I then painted several canvas flowers with twinkling h20's, dried with a heat gun to get a curled look, layered them together and placed them on the stenciled areas once they were dry. The stems were created by rolling paper and gluing to the canvas. I added some canvas leaves and a title. Here's the end result ...

Bazzil + Unity + Think Pink

Hi there, it 's Eva sharing a new card with the beautiful Bazzill Cancer Awareness Glazed Cardstock, Marah Johnson's Embracing Hope Unity Stamps and our new Think Pink Luminarte.

I always love playing with resist papers and our Luminarte products, so I was looking forward to paint these very special papers by Bazzill.  I paired the pretty products up with some Spellbinders.  Here is what I came up with.

The Think Pink Petite set is all you need to paint these beautiful papers.  After I die cut my flower and leaf, I just painted them  to coordinate with my card as well.

Christine Adolph--Sakura

Have you ever come across one of those collections that is just so pretty that you don't even want to cut into it?  That's exactly how I felt about Christine Adolph's Sakura collection.  The beautiful colors and patterns are suitable for framing!

As you can see, I eventually decided to cut into those pretty papers to create this layout.  I used the die cut paper as my background and cut the lanterns from patterned paper to use as a decorative element across the top of the layout.

I brought out the purple in the papers by painting a strip of Paint It papers with sugar plum Luminarte Twinking H2Os.  I further embellished with die cuts, layered stickers, and a border punched strip of real wood paper.

I create this card for a friend.  I embossed a piece of wood paper and then inked the raised design and then embellished with twine and a die cut.
