Wow! Time for another hop with PRIZES! When I received my Die-namite Dies, Heart Bloom and Swirling Love Birds, I thought of my dress form projects. I have several paper mache dress forms that are seasonal. What could be better then a Valentine dress form for February? I also noticed how well one of my other dies, Floral Bouquet, goes with the theme. 

First I painted some adhesive backed canvas with Luminarte Acrylic Silks ~ Carmen. Then I cut with my floral dies. When cutting, I made sure the sharp edge of the die was touching the canvas becauase I did not need it to cut through the backing paper.

Once cut, it was easy to place and rearrange the die cut on the curvy form. Don't be afraid to cut stems, etc. off to make it easier. You can always put them on somewhere. 

 

 

Valentine Dress Form

On the dress form I painted below the "waist" with Luminarte Acrylic Silk's ~ Silver Bells and the rest with Lumiarte Acrylic Silks ~  Iridescent Red. With the die cut on, I covered the whole form with Luminarte Acrylic Silks ~Iridescent Red. The red from the Lumiarte Acrylic Silks Carmen worked with the Iridescent to make a beautiful pink. 

 Later I went over the die cut with Viva Colour's Magic Transparent Pen, painting over the Luminarte Acrylic Carmen Silk creating a shiny texture! The pen captured the red and intensified the contrast with the background. 

 

I finished it with a few decorations, but I really wanted to keep the die cuts as the focal point.

I've made a few Valentine's Day Magnets, and decorated a jar to put a few treats in!

 For the jar, I took a doilly and sprayed it with Ginger Peach shimmering mist, then daubed the edges with Hot Cinnamon.  After it dried, I covered the inside metal lid, and put the ring around it.  These fabulous cupcakes were made with the "Delightful Cupcakes" Die-Namites Die and some thin metal.  They look good enough to eat!

 

Here are the magnet-valentines I made!

I started with chipboard pieces.  On the scalloped piece, I used Inka Gold in "Lava Red".  This provided a nice base to start with!  For the top chipboard piece, I used a piece of Cotswald Manor paper.  The "Heart Bouquet" is another awesome die from Die-Namites!  To give the little chipboard bird a little bit of texture, I used Magic Transparent Pearl Pen.  I glued a piece of magnet on the back of the piece.  So, instead of giving a little Valentine's Day card, I will give my Valentines a little magnet that will have them thinking of me just a little bit longer!

Here is a variation on the last magnet, still using the same beautiful die!

On this magnet, I used the "Delightful Cupcakes" diecut again!  I cut it in two different colors of metal, allowing me to have the cut-out parts in a different color, and then I glued them on!

Here, I used the cut-out parts on the chipboard heart, as well!

When i started designing with our Luminarte paints and Die~Namites Dies I quickly realized it is a match made in heaven!  

  This is the book showing how the die was cut from the cover , making a transparent image.

I die cut the Regal heart and the Love Arrangement from cardstock.  I painted them with various Luminarte Twinkling h20's and when dried i dipped the pieces into hot beeswax.  I cut the flowers and the leaves from the Love Arrangement adding them to the Regal Heart.

I used the Cotswald Manor Collection from Splash of Color
as the base of my banner!!

It is a bit hard to see but my Valentine's Banner
says MY HEART!

I began by applying
Viva Colour ~ Inka Gold ~ Lava Red and Old Silver
to a sheet of the Sentimental paper from
the Cotswald Manor Collection!

I then began die~cutting using
the BEAUFTIFUL Die~Namites Dies....
Regal Heart
Lovely Doily
Rose Heart
Planted Heart

From a sheet of Devotion from the Cotswald Manor Collections
I die~cut many
Love Arrangement

 ....then I let the creating begin!!!

I painted some chipboard letters with 
Luminarte Silks Acrylic Glaze ~ Black Ice
then I dabbed on some 
Viva Colour ~ Inka Gold ~ Lava Red and Old Silver.

I accented the "green" Love Arrangement Die~Namites die~cut
with Viva Colour ~ Magic Transparent Pearl Pens ~ Clear
....SEE the beautiful Regal Heart!

The handmade spiral flowers created from various pieces of paper
from the Cotswald Manor Collection,
and accented with Viva Colour Inka Gold.
The die~cut heart is Die~Namites Rose Heart.

For my "T", I cut apart the
 Die~Namites Planted Heart die~cut
and used the center heart.

I had tons of FUN creating "MY HEART" banner...

Splash of Art Journaling

We have done a lot of fun projects and out of the box creating, but creating in my art journal remains one of my favorites.

Here is a finished page, where I drew a face in pencil. I then covered the page in a clear gesso which sealed the paper and made it ready to paint. First, Itried oil pastels for the hair, but I didn't like how irregular the lines were.

 The Viva Colour Paper Pen in black saved the day!

 I used the Viva Colour Paper Pen in black which made a great texture. The Luminarte Silks in Black Ice filled in the space.

 

 The yellow circles are in yellow oil pastels, but the background is from Radiant Rains-Bashful Blue, Honey Dew, and Ice. I brushed them on the gessoed surface, which allowed the Radiant Rain to disperse and blend into a watery effect.                

An art journal is all about experimenting. I'm really happy with the result! Hope you can craft today!-heather

-"Gesso" used is new on the market and is not bulky like traditional gesso its called "Pam Carriker's Mixed Media Adhesive"

 

 

My Little Tag Notebook

Lisa here with another Splash Of color project to share with you. I love tags and I love little notebooks. I decided to combine the 2 and create a little tag notebook The cover and back is thick chipboard covered with pattern paper and then adorned with Splash of Color product. The inside are die cut tags made from plain white card stock. I added 9 pages.

Here is a closeup of the flower cluster and my title. The flowers all starrted out white and I painted them with Splash Of Color Silks Acrylic Glaze in African Jade. The Mulberry paper leaves were a beige color and I painted them with Silks Acrylic Glaze in Pretty Peridot. The brown leaves were die cut and painted with Silks Acrylic Glaze in Nutmeg. The flourishes were die cut using Kraft paper and painted with the Nutmeg as well.

Here is a side view of the Tag Notebook. I thought 9 pages gave it a little bulk and plenty of space to write in. Once the cover was done, I used a toothbrush, Silks and a little water to spatter the cover and the back with the Silks glaze in Pretty Peridot. For the edges of cover and back of the tags, I rubbed some Splash Of Color Viva Colour Inka Gold in Steel Blue. Then using Luminarte Twinkling H20's in Bashful Blue, went over it lighty to get a 2 toned faded out effect.

Here you can see how I fanned out the papers. The ribbon is actually Seam Binding that I spread in a little puddle of the same Silks colors I used on the leaves and flowers. I misted the Seam Binding with water before I added the paint. The paint wicked into the Seam Binding with ease. I added a couple of strands of Bakers Twine as well.

Thank  you for coming and taking a peek at my little tag notebook. This was a quick and fun  project to do.

....and the shoes HAVE IT!

I love creating for CHA!!! 
I always try to come up with one
REALLLLY OUTTA THE BOX creation!
This year was no exception!

I don't know why, but I love decorating shoes.
and I must say, I'm not a huge shoe person.
I had it in my head I wanted to do 
a pair of those big 'ole pumps.
You know....the kind where you could
twist you ankle just walking across the floor....
(maybe you are a bit more talented in the walking
department than I!!)

While on a our way to a Consumer Show....
Cheryl and I went to this second hand store....
and there they were...the shoes I had been looking for
Black Leather with studded heals!!

I really wish I had taken of before picture....
but here is the after picture!!

With a stipple brush, I applied
Viva Colour Ferro ~ Amber Gold to base of the shoes.

I used various supplies on my Platform shoes...
one is the Shabby Beige ~ Darjeeling Daisy by Petaloo
colored with various Luminarte ~ Primary Elements mixed with
Bind and Resist, and Luminarte ~ Silk Acrylic Glazes.
Then accented with Viva Colour ~ Precious Metal Effect Paint
and a BEAUTIFUL antique button.

Being a HUGE LOVER of ALL THINGS Vintage Lace,
I found just the perfect piece of lace to add to my shoes.

A little tip.....gently spritz the lace with a bit of water
to help the Luminarte ~ Silks Acrylic Glaze
wick into the treads.

I scrounged around and found a large chippie,
which I cut apart, painted with 
Luminarte ~ Silk Acrylic Glaze
and a bit of Golden ~ Glass Beads.
I finished off my creation with
various Mini Pearl Daises by Petaloo
accented with various colors.

Shimmering Down by the Sea with Twinkling H2O's

Hello friends, Lisa here with a layout full of Twinkling H2O's, Silks and Radiant rain. My layout starts with a beautiful piece of "PAINT IT" with Luminarte paper. I randomly covered the paper with gesso in a light coat. When it dried, I used a mask and sprayed Luminarte Radiant Rain Shimmering Mist in Pink Grapefruit. I painted on some LuminArte Twinkling H2O's in Bashful Blue on some parts of the paper. I inked the edges lighty with a brown distress ink. I think I inked the edges of everything in the distress ink to give the whole layout a slightly worn feeling.

You can see the shimmer of the Twinkling H20's. For the flowers I usd lots of gorgeous colors. Bashful Blue, Chiffon Pink, Icy Iris, Cherry Sorbet and Sea Glass. For the leaves I used Olive Vine. I created small rolled paper roses and sprayed them with LuminArte Shimmering Mist in Pink Grapefruit. I dropped a small pearl in the middle of some of them. The little film strips are a Washi tape I found. I flicked some LuminArte Silks Acrylic Glaze in Black Ice on the background paper.

The beautiful mermaid cutout is from an Iron Orchid Designs Die Cut Shapes package created for Creative Imaginations which is now Splash Of Color. The star fish in the photo above is from the same package. I used a Viva Colour Glitter pen in Iridescent Multi Colored to highlight the starfish and the leaves. You can see the chipboard circle peaking out in this photo. It was treated with Viva Colour Crackle Paint Base Coat - Base Coat for Porous Surfaces, and after it dried was painted with Viva Colour ~ White Crackle Paint.

Once the crackle paint was dired and crackled, I painted it with Silks Acrylic Glaze in Pink Grapefruit keeping with the color theme. I love how the LuminArte product colors coordinate with one another.

 

I took one of the cutouts to use as my title for the layout and used some jute to string through it and turn it into a tag.

I used plain white flowers from different manufacturers and painted them with the Twinkling H20's. The shimmer and shine is amazing. I lightly inked the flowers with brown distress ink.

Love is in the air....

  Valentines Day is coming up and I decided to start a "Love" paper bag mini album as a keepsake for lots of pictures of my husband and I. Once the base of the album was done, it was time to splash it with color!! I had a lot of fun using different elements from Splash Of Color. Luminarte and Viva Colour just make your projects shine.

Here is the cover of my album. It all started with a 12x12 piece  of chipboard that I cut down and created the cover and spine with. Once it was assembled I gathered all of my embellishments. A wooden cage, chipboard, white flowers, ribbons, leaves, charms, and lace. I painted the letters with Silks Acrylic Glaze in Pink Grapefruit. And edged it around the letters as well for a glow.

I used some seam binding to tie on my trinket that is hanging from the top of the spine. I colored the seam binding by combining Luminarte Radiant Rain Shimmering Mist in Poppy, Persimmon, and Copper. I sprayed them on my non stick craft mat and rubbed the color into the ribbon. I dried it with a craft heat gun and let it wrinkle slightly.

The spine of the album was embossed using a textured embossing folder and my Sizzix Big Shot. Once the album was assembled the spine was ready for some magic. I sprayed a little water into my pot of Viva Colour Inka Gold Metallic rub in Lava Red, picked it up on my finger and started the process of rubbing it onto the embossed spine just to hit the raised areas the most. Once the rub was dry (it dries immediatly) then I buffed it with a soft cloth. The look is like an old worn vintage leather bound book. Love the effect that the Metallic Rub gave the embossed paper.

I painted the wooden birdcage with Viva Colour Crackle Paint in black. The white flowers were given a very light spritz of water, then I started the coloring process. I wanted a durable flower so I mixed a little Luminarte Primary Elements in Fuzzy Peach with Viva Colour Crackle Paint in white. I painted the larger layered flowers with my crackle mix. Once it was dry, I added a light spritz of Luminarte Radiant Rain Shimmering Mist in pink Grapefruit. When that dried I rubbed a little Viva Colour Pearl Pen on the ridges of the petals in Red Pearl. And the final touch was rubbing in Viva Colour Inka Gold Metallic Rub in Lava Red. I dropped a half pearl in the middles and surrounded them with Viva Colour German Glitter pen in Red. The depth of the colors in the flowers is just fantastic when bleding all of the product. And mixing the crackle paint in with color as the base gave the flowers a stiff and durable finish. The roses were spritzed with water then painted with Silks Acrylic Glaze in Fuzzy Peach and Pink Grapefruit.

I learned from one of my amazing students.....
Dee, to never waste the "left over color"
that is left on your craft mat!

While in the process of creating another project for CHA,
I had LOTS of "left over color"
so I "sopped" it up with 
Manilla Shipping Tags
creating the BEAUTIFUL base....

To finish creating the background....
I then pulled out a Crafter's Workshop stencil
and applied VIVA Colour ~ Graphite ~ Ferro through it.

I just LOVE 
Silks Acrylic Glaze ~ Wind and Roses!!!
and that Petaloo flower took the color
like a DREAM!!!

......and my ALL TIME FAVORITE technique
applying Precious Metal Effect Paint
to the edge of the flowers....
giving it a spritz of water...
and the results 
are JUST BEAUTIFUL!!!
