Good morning! Welcome to day one of our 12 days of gift-giving with Faber Castell and Xyron! In addition to sharing our ideas for quick and easy gifts, we will be giving away product on all three blogs! Just post a comment on our blog about our projects, product or share one of your handmade gift ideas! We will be randomly pulling names and giving away prizes over the next twelve days! Be sure to pop over to the Xyron blog and the Faber Castell Blog for more projects and a chance to win some of their products!
Today's project was designed by Jules Eickmeier. Here is what Jules had to say about the inspiration behind her project!
I meet with three women friends each week. We call ourselves the Women Who Do Lunch Bunch and, every year at Christmas, we treat ourselves to a special luncheon out at a fancy restaurant. It is on this day that we exchange small but carefully choosen gifts for each other. I try to make mine. Last year, I made miniature Victorian stocking filled with chocolate and mint candy canes. This year, thanks to Creative Imaginations, Luminarte, Viva Colour, IOD, Faber-Castell and Xyron, each of my friends will be getting an altered wine glass filled with holiday candies. Oh, and I made an extra....hmmmmmmmm. Now what shall I do with that one?

Each of these wine glasses was created basically the same way. The colors and products varied but the main techniques are the same.

For this cranberry colored wine glass, I swirled a small amount of Luminarte Radiant Rain Shimmering Mist in Persimmon into the bottom of the wine glass. I turned the wine glass upside down and allowed the Mist to run down the sides. After about fifteen minutes, I repeated the process. I used a sponge brush to then coat the inside of the glass using a bottom to top stroke until all the liquid had been absorbed.

While I like how this looked, I wanted a deeper, richer, more vintage look to the glass. I mixed some of the Luminarte Primary Elements pigments into Hot Cinnamon and added some Clear Glaze and a tad bit more of the Persimmon in one of the oh so handy plastic containers that come with the Primary Elements kits. I used a sponge brush to apply this mixture to the outside of the glass. The streaks from the inside showed through giving the wine glass an aged appearance. Color me cranberry happy.

I added the little girl image cut out from the IOD Rejoice paper, Joy Cards and used my mega Xyron runner to add adhesive. I added some highlights to the image using the Viva Colour Pearl Pen and Red Cherry Gelato by Faber-Castell. I love these watercolor crayons and used them on almost every wine glass I made.

For this next wine glass, I mixed the Luminarte Primary Elements Clear Glaze (thanks Cheryl Mezzetti for the hint) with green Dragonfly Wing from the Fairy Tales Luminarte Primary Elements. On a craft sheet, I scribbled Gold Gelato by Faber-Castell and mixed the three together in various amount til I achieve the color I desired. It is such fun to experiment with the color combinations. I used one of the lovely sticker tags from the IOD Rejoice collection and tied it to the stem of the glass.

I used a sponge brush to apply the color both inside and out side the glass allowing one to dry before doing the other. Drying time was a couple of hours. I added some of the IOD Rejoice die cut pieces for the border on the glass, adhered them with my Xyron and layered them. I added tiny red beads, a self adhesive elembellishment around the top and enhanced the ivy, the printed berries and the bird with assorted Luminarte Twinkling H20s.

This next glass was done with a mixture of Gold Gelato by Faber-Castell, Solar Gold Twinkling H20 and Primary Elements Clear Glaze Medium. I used a sponge brush to paint the inside of the wine glass. Painting the inside as well as the outside, intesifies the color. (HINT: when using a sponge brush to apply color to glass, turn the glass, not the brush). After the inside has dried, I used an artist sponge to dabe the outside to give the glass the gilded appearance.

The border on the top is a self sticking embellishment. To keep the trim as even as possible, I cut it into sections. The bottom is a fabric flower cut in half and glued on to the base. I tied a few strung beads onto the top. The added the angel from the IOD Rejoice sticker sheet and the image was inhanced with Luminarte Solar Gold Twinkling H20's.

The final wine glass is my second favorite. Can you guess my first? I love how this one that I call Snowfall turned out.

This is the only wine glass that I did not paint the inside. I wanted to capture, if I could, that gray and white essence of a first snow fall. I painted the outside of the glass first with Faber-Castell's Silver Ice Gelato mixed well with the Luminarte Primary Elements Clear Glaze Medium until I had a soft, almost clear color. I painted this on with a sponge brush. After this first coat had dried, I mixed a small amount of the Glaze Medium with small pieces off the Gelato. I did not mix these until smooth but left bits of watercolor crayon intact. Using an artist's sponge, I dabbed this mixture onto the first coat, giving the illusion of falling snow. Using my Xyron, I attached lace under the glass rim and encircled the top with self adhesive pearls. I used more of the pearls to wrap the stem of the glass.

I wanted to create the illusion of snow drifts that I remember so well from living in the midwest. The Viva Colour Pearl Pen in Ice White was perfect. I ran the pen from the center of the base to the outside turning the glass as I went. When the first layer had dried, I reapeated the process. To finish off the glass I tapped the Silver Ice Gelato on the rim all around the glass. I allowed this to set up and sealed this with an acrylic spray. This created a vintage pewter effect. I added some embellisments in the shape of snowflakes and was done.

While I did use an acrylic spray sealer on each wine glass both inside and out, these are not for daily use but rather for display and gifts. They can be lightly dusted with a slightly damp cloth but immersion in water may result in loss of color, design and embellishments.
I sure hope my friends like their holiday gifts...and now to divert them from here so they don't see them! lol
