May Arts and a ribbon flower by Lisa

If you know me, then you know I love to create flowers from many different mediums. Today, the medium of choice is May Arts 1.5 inch Faux Linen Ribbon in white. It pairs so well with LuminArte Silks Acrylic Glaze.

I chose to create a card. I used a 110 pound white card stock. I  cut it down to the size of my embossing folder. The cover of the card was then embossed using a decorative embossing folder that paired with a coordinating strip. I painted the 2 peices using LuminArte Silks Acrylic Glaze in Coral Berry giving it a light coat. Once it was dry, I used Viva Colour Inka Gold Metallic Rub in Gold and rubbed it onto the embossed surface of the card and the strip. Once it was dry, I buffed it with a soft cloth. I then adhered the strip to the middle of the card using pop dots.

 

The flower I created from the May Arts Faux Linen Ribbon was super easy to create. I cut a 12 inch length of the ribbon, painted it with LuminArte Silks Acrylic Glaze in Coral Berry and used a heat gun to dry it. Using needle and thread, sew a running stitch on one side of the ribbon and gather it tightly. Join the ends together and sew up the seam to close your circle. Evenly distribute the gathers in the flower and add a trinket to the middle of the flower. I rubbed some of the Inka Gold on the trinket. Paint some Viva Colour Inka Gold Metallic Rub in Gold around the edges of the flower and adhere to your card. The die cut vine leaf was rubbed in the Inka Gold as well and tucked  under the flower.

Now you could add a sentiment to the cover of your card, or leave it blank and write your sentiment on the inside. The ribbon flowers are fun and easy to create and think of the endless possible colors you could color them.

ATCs Quotes via Heather

Here is a quick project for everyone. Sometimes it feels good to complete a project. So here are some artist trading cards (ATCs). In addition, check out the ATC sized collection of papers and embellishments. They are so cute! 

An ATC can be as simple as an inspiring quote (like these from Canvas Corp). 

 

 

 These quotes are SO TRUE! I wanted a cool way to showcase them. I started with playing cards and glued on some decorative mesh. Then I appiled the Viva Colour Base Coat. Then I glued on the quotes and applied Viva Colour Silver Inka Gold using my finger.

 I love the monochromatic scheme on the Maya Angelou quote, so I used black Swarovski Crystals as an accent.

 For the other ATC I used a strip from the Number Washi Tape sheet (it is adhesive backed!), a 7 gypsies rub-on and a resin key hole. 

 Easy and inspiring! From here you can easily turn the ATCs into a card, add them to a layout or drop one in a Project Life pocket.

I LOVE creating ATC's...
just to see how much
CREATIVE goodness I can fit
on a 2.5" x 3.5" space.

I decided to try an experiement....
I took one of each of the
Splash of Color ATC's
Corrugated Kraft, White and Black
along with the Birch ATC.

I lined them up and created each one exactly the same....
I pulled out my basket of Silks ~ Acrylic Glaze.
Now....this product is a bit transparent in nature
so I wanted to see how it would respond
on each of the different colored backgrounds.

Here is the White Corrugated ATC...
and yes those are mini puzzle pieces...
adhered with Black Gesso
and colored with Viva Colour Inka Gold ~ Orange. 
See that amazing sparkle from the
Viva Colour German Glitter ~ Gold. 

The easiest to tell was the Birch...
I just love how the Sikl Acrylic Glaze
flowed with the wood grain. 

Here is the Black Corrugated ATC.
hint hint....I dabbed on a pile of
Viva Colour Modeling Cream ~ Champagne
and used it as an adhesive to hold down the mesh. 

Last but not least,
the Kraft Corrugated ATC.

I will be adhering these little darlings 
to the face of a few cards...

my friends!!

Sneak Peeks ~ Cotswald Manor

From the moment I laid eyes on the Cotswald Manor Collection by IOD 
it was LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT!!

...the colors....the patterns.....softness!!

 Needles to say it was a breeze to create with such BEAUTIFUL papers.

I began my layout by mixing Viva Colour Modeling Cream ~ Pearl
with a little Haematte and Steel Blue Inka Gold.

Using the Bon Soir stencil, I applied the mixture to a piece of Devotion paper.

When dry I cut the piece into smaller pieces and distressed the edges.

I then used a punch on the Romantic paper and created more strips.
Using the back side of the Romatic paper, cut smaller strips.

To accent the layout I created a row of pearls using
Cream Pearl Pen by Viva Colour.

As a final accent I spritzed the flowers with
Luminarte Radiant Rain Shimmering Mist ~ Pearl Gold.

With Valentines Day right around the corner,
I also wanted to share with you the card I made.
This paper just screams.....LOVE!!

New Marah Johnson Le Jardin Collection!

Le Jardin by Marah Johnson
is a fun, funky collection with great colors and images.

 I chose to get a bit Artsy with my layout using this collection.

There was alot of mixing, spritzing,
image transfers and vintage lacegoing on!!

I cut the banner pieces from the Le Jardin paper and
image transfered them onto pieces of canvas,
along with 3 different Butterflies.

Then the color mixing began!!

Viva Colour ~ Haematite and Lava Red ~ Inka Gold
I used this mixture in a watered down state to dip the banner
pieces in, to color the Mini Pearl Daises.

In a slighty thicker state,  
I removed blobs of each Inka Gold with my Palette Knife,
and mixed in a wee bit of water 
then spread it through the Floral Stencil.

I did this process 4 times to create the three dimensional flower,
each layer cut out slightly smaller than the last

I also created a Funky card with this collection.

I cut out various images from the Seedlings paper and 
accented them with Inka Gold. 

The background paper was created by dipping the backside of the
Dragonfly paper in the left over watered down
Inka Gold mixture from my layout.

Guest Designer Barb King- Owl I Want for Christmas

 

 

I'm back again with some fun owl themed Christmas cards.  I love the Holiday Joy papers by Christine Aldolph, and I used the Joyful Stripe and Holiday House pieces to make this card.  I cut out two owls and a section of the branch from the Joyful Stripe paper.  I applied a light spray of Pearl Gold Radiant Rain to the branch piece, and inked the edges of the owls with Antique Linen Distress Ink.  The card base was made with more of this patterned paper, and the sentiment was embossed with gold embossing powder to make it stand out.  The owls have pop dots behind them to give them dimension, and some stickles on the pom poms on their hats.  What a cute pair!

This next card was made with a Lawn Fawn Set called "Winter Owl". 

 I stamped the owl on white cardstock and painted it in with Autumn Butternut, Indian Copper, Olive Vine and Egyptian Gold Twinkling H2O's, and then cut it out.  I find it much easier and faster to paint with my Twinks than to color an image with markers, and I love the shimmer that I get with the watercolors.   I stamped the owl again on the polka dot paper, and just cut out the scarf.    The front of the card was made with a piece from the Holly Jolly Paper Pad layered over a base of green cardstock.  Before I added the white snow piece it was sprayed with Pearl Gold.  The die cut tree branch is from Tim Holtz, and was spritzed with Egyptian Gold.  A ribbon, a button and a sentiment from the Holly Jolly Die Cuts finished it off!  Doesn't that owl look comfy in his warm scarf?  I will be back soon with a few more projects.

Guest Designer Barb King ~ Happy Holidays Snowman

Barb King here, and I am so honored to be invited to be a guest designer on the Creative Imaginations Blog.  

I’m a teacher, and I have always enjoyed creating paper craft projects with my students.  Cardmaking became a passion of mine several years ago, and last January I started my blog, King Designs.  I enjoy both teaching and taking cardmaking and mixed media classes, and it was at a card class that I first discovered Luminarte's Twinking H2O's.  I loved their sparkle and how easy they were to use, and have used them extensively in my card designs ever since.  I have had the pleasure of participating in inspiring classes taught by Marah Johnson and Cheryl Mezzetti using Luminarte and Creative Imaginations products.  This week I will sharing some fun holiday projects with you.

I love this happy snowman stamp from Hero Arts.  I stamped the image with Verasmark Ink and used white embossing powder to give the snowman definition and make it easier to paint around.  The background was painted with both Majestic and Mediterranean Blue Twinkling H2O's,  creating a watercolor wash effect.   I went over the snowman's arms and eyes with Sharpie markers, and used a regular marker for the hat and sign. 

 

I stamped the Hero Arts sentiment on a second piece of white cardstock, then applied some Distress Stickles Clear Rock Candy dry glitter over it to give it lots of sparkle.   This was layered over the bottom section of the card.  After I added the ribbon with the buckle, I attached it to the card base.

Nutcracker ATC by Shelley Hamilton

I began with two white corregated ATCs that I glued together.  I colored them with Persimmon Luminarte Radiant Rain Shimmering Mist first.  Then, I used Luminarte Twinkling H20 in Lucky Apple and Sunflower over the Persimmon.  I painted the Nutcracker stamp with the Persimmon, the Sunflower, and Sea Spray Twinkling H20.

The frame I painted with Twinkling 20s in these colors:  Lucky Apple, Lemongrass, Sunflower, Spiced Pumpkin, and Poppy Red.  I then added dots using Viva Colour Paper Pen in White.

 

I also painted several die cut pieces from the Rejoice Collection and from the Beautiful You Collection.

 

I cut out the NOEL from Greetings, a 12"x12" sheet from the Holly Jolly Collection, and painted it with the Sunflower Twinkling H20.

I finished off this ATC with some bling trim, glass beads, and glitter glue!

We are excited to present DT member, Alicia's beautiful Holiday project!

Good morning! Today, I decided to showcase some gift card envelopes which are perfect for the holidays.  If you are like me and are short on time and just plain don't like to shop, you give a lot of gift cards for Christmas.  These gift envelopes make the perfect way to dress up your gift card.

I used my Cricuit (Tags, Boxes & More cartridge) to cut out these gift card envelopes with Kraft paper.   I then used the Cricuit (Winter Woodland cartridge) to cut out 2 and 3 inch poinsettias with white carstock.  The Faber Castell Gelatos are so much fun to play with and I colored the poinsettias with reds and greens and then used the Faber Castell colored pencils to add some detail to the poinsettias.  The Faber Castell gelatos are also fun to ink (watercolor) the sides of the kraft envelopes for extra detail.  I then used the CI Holly Jolly collection (6X6 paper collection) to decorate each envelope and the Xyron mega runners rollers are oooh....soo....fabulous!  They can be used to adhere anything and the mega runner goes a very long way.  The Holly Jolly stickers and die-cuts  were added to my envelopes for extra dimension and detail. 

I then added ribbon to each gift card envelope to finish the envelope off - but the top opens easily to place your gift card as you can see here:

"Courage is Power" card for World Card Day!!

Shelley here with a card for World Card Day and Breast Cancer awareness month!

For my "Courage is Power" card, I began with several different papers from the 6"x6" paper pad from the "Beautiful You" collection by Christine Adolf.  This paper is absolutely gorgeous!  I used several different border punches on some of the edges of the papers, then assembled them on the card as shown.  I used the "Courage" cut out from the same paper pad, and matted it with the pink paper from the Dots and Stripes Warm 6"x6" paper pad.  I then pop-dotted it to the card, and placed a couple of pink flowers underneath.

 

Toward the bottom right-hand part of the card, I used a set of gates from the Life as Art Die Cut shapes.  I painted them with Silks Acrylic Glaze in Pink Grapefruit.  I used 2 small pieces of eye candy on the doors.

 

Under the doors is a pod from the Mixaparts system.  I started with a small circle cut out from the 6"x6" "Beautiful You" paper pad.  I painted it with Pink Azalea Twinkling H20.  I then used an overlay from the Shabby Chic prepack and a white resin piece from the Majesty Resin set.  I put a few glass beads in the pod, then glued it closed.  I used a 1" hole punch in the card, and glued the pod in from the back.  On the inside of the doors, I used some Oceanside Words and painted it with the Pink Azalea twinkling H20.

 

I was really pleased with the finished project!!  I enjoyed sharing this project with you!
