I had a great time making this rusty precious metal cardboard journal cover!
Let me show you how it began.
I took some cardboard that is sold with the corragated part exposed. Then I ripped parts, bent parts, and gave it some distressed effects. Then I applied some acrylic paint to cause variation in the base color.
In the portions where I tore off the corragated paper, I applied
Viva Colour's Precious Metal Effects in Yellow Orange
In the next step I used acrylic glaze, which was in the place of
Primary Elements All Purpose Clear Glaze Medium.
I then added a Rusting Powder, which is very dark. To start a beautiful patina, I sprinkled on
Luminarte's Primary Elements Artists' Pigments.
While adhering the pigment, the rusting powder was slowly changing (this product has to be sprayed with white vinegar). It began to show oranges and reds. I decided to add another metal color:
Viva Colour's Precious Metal Effects in Copper.
Then I would rotate through all the paints adding where ever I thought the colors were needed.
Finally, I did the cover collage and used the same paints as I used in the background to color the dense chipboard cut-outs and the wooden buttons.
For the title and my name on the back of the book, I used glitter letters and gave them a coating of
Viva Colour's Clear Magic Transparent Perfect Pearl Pen.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and I recommend getting a little bit dirty! -heather
That came out awesome! I love all the sparkly colored goodness of it all!
