Splash of Color Blog: Guest Designer Barb King- Owl I Want for Christmas

I'm back again with some fun owl themed Christmas cards. I love the Holiday Joy papers by Christine Aldolph, and I used the Joyful Stripe and Holiday House pieces to make this card. I cut out two owls and a section of the branch from the Joyful Stripe paper. I applied a light spray of Pearl Gold Radiant Rain to the branch piece, and inked the edges of the owls with Antique Linen Distress Ink. The card base was made with more of this patterned paper, and the sentiment was embossed with gold embossing powder to make it stand out. The owls have pop dots behind them to give them dimension, and some stickles on the pom poms on their hats. What a cute pair!

This next card was made with a Lawn Fawn Set called "Winter Owl".

I stamped the owl on white cardstock and painted it in with Autumn Butternut, Indian Copper, Olive Vine and Egyptian Gold Twinkling H2O's, and then cut it out. I find it much easier and faster to paint with my Twinks than to color an image with markers, and I love the shimmer that I get with the watercolors. I stamped the owl again on the polka dot paper, and just cut out the scarf. The front of the card was made with a piece from the Holly Jolly Paper Pad layered over a base of green cardstock. Before I added the white snow piece it was sprayed with Pearl Gold. The die cut tree branch is from Tim Holtz, and was spritzed with Egyptian Gold. A ribbon, a button and a sentiment from the Holly Jolly Die Cuts finished it off! Doesn't that owl look comfy in his warm scarf? I will be back soon with a few more projects.
