Hello bloggers, Lynn K. here to introduce an exciting new feature on the Creative Imaginations blog. Each month we will share an art journal project including ways to incorporate Creative Imaginations products along with mixed media products, stencils, stamps, all the fabulous Luminarte, and so much more!
Art Journaling can be anything you want it to be and the products available to create with are endless. It can be personal, whimsical, quirky, whatever you desire! The process is the best part as you learn how products work together, or don't work together! It's amazing to create a background by applying layer over layer and discovering the products you love to work with! You can start with a specific art journal or even an old book. Personally, I prefer a mixed media or watercolor journal as the paper is a heavier weight to handle all the wet media I use. However, any journal will do - if the paper is thin, just glue a few pages together for a stronger base page. Start with what you already have until you discover what works best for you - no rules!! Here's my final project - I had to stop adding stuff, I could add on all day!!
For my project I started with an 8.5 x 11 wirebound Sketchbook journal. I have discovered that a sketchbook journal has lighter weight paper so I doubled up on the pages before I started. My first layer was a collage of torn pieces of Perposterous Paper from the 6x6 paper pad. I applied the papers with multi-medium matte. I then scrapped on a light layer of gesso over the background to tone it down. I painted Luminarte Silks Acrylic Glaze in Pomegranite (a GORGEOUS color BTW!) around the edges of the journal page and over the torn edges to add color. I added background image stamps in script, splattered paint and dots ...
All these layers add interest and detail. I wanted to add some "drips" and black worked well with my vintage image. So, I grabbed some Luminarte Acrylic Glaze in Black Ice and painted a splotch at the top left. I then misted the splotch with water and tilted the book up to allow for drippage! I love the result and the added bonus - the glaze adds a shimmer as well!! The drips were where I chose to anchor my quote as well ...
The key on the above image is a CI existencil. I scraped light modeling paste over the stencil and when dry rubbed more Pomegranite Acrylic Glaze over the key image.
I love going on the internet and searching for vintage images. There are so many sources for free printable images and I found this lovely Lady here. I chose her because the colors went well with my papers! I decided my lady needed an umbrella so I cut one from the Curiosity paper.
I added some Luminarte Twinkling H20's in Ice - my FAV color - to the flowers, umbrella and around the lace on the lady's dress. I then added Luminarte Viva Colour by CI Pearl Pen in Cream to the flower centers.
Then came the doodling ... this really adds definition wherever you want it! So there you have it! I hope this inspires you to give art journaling a go. There's no rules and definitely no mistakes! Looking forward to bringing you another fun project next month!!
