Our Guest Artists Dorit Elisha has been very busy! She recently, got back from CREATE (were she taught some classes)and she made time to do a painting for us today. This time Dorit is showing us how she paints glass bottles. She makes it so easy and fun to do and I really like the colors with the texture overlap technique. So without futher adieu, here is Dorit.
One of my all-time favorite things to draw and paint are colored glass bottles. I love their transparent colors and how you see "new" colors when they stand overlapping one another. Water color is the perfect media to paint colored glass since it is also transparent and when mixed you get beautiful new colors.
For this project, I started by using a white crayon to draw 4 different shapes of bottles that are overlapping in a "still life" arrangement. I used Radiant Rain Color Concentrate daubers (after removing the caps very carefully) and a water color brush to color the bottles. The areas that overlapped, I painted with one color first, and the second on top after rinsing the brush.
The next step, after the paint has dried, was to place a stencil on top of the painted bottles and spraying some diluted mix of red and yellow paint through it. It took a few minutes before I could see the lovely results taking place: The stencil’s pattern was transferred onto the bottles and created this unique texture that I love. (see close up photo)
When that layer dried, I cut out the bottles and repasted them on top of a white background.
